In 1986, it was decided to flank the ‘Palio storico’ with the ‘Drappo dipinto‘ (painted banner) that remains with the winning Quartiere, whose execution is entrusted to renowned contemporary Italian and foreign artists.
Since 1998, the banner of the winning district has had the honour of flying all year round in the citadel on the flagpole in Piazza Maggiore in the historic centre.
